My Journey in Sound: Tim Inglis

My passion for music began over 30 years ago, not in a fancy studio, but in my bedroom, experimenting with a 4-track tape machine and a handful of guitar pedals for all my effects. That hands-on, experimental start wasn’t just for guitars; I quickly discovered how to use those effects creatively on other instruments and even vocals, igniting a lifelong dedication to crafting unique sound. I’ve been playing music ever since, and that journey eventually led me to formally studying audio engineering and production.

This deep, lifelong connection to music isn’t just a career for me; it’s a calling. My personal journey as an artist constantly informs my professional empathy, allowing me to anticipate your needs and translate your deepest musical expressions into tangible, polished sound. This dual perspective means I truly understand the creative process as both an artist and an engineer. I’ve personally experienced the anxiety of stepping into a recording environment, or the apprehension of handing off a deeply personal musical vision, hoping the producer or engineer “gets it.”

This understanding is at the core of my philosophy. I believe that clarity in music comes from the arrangement—not just song structure, but the meticulous choice of each instrument to create sonic balance across the frequency spectrum, fitting them together into a musical tapestry that fully delivers your artistic vision. My role as a producer is to facilitate you to perfectly capture your best possible performance. This is what I mean by getting it right at the source. While much of my editing and mixing work takes place at Rhetorecords Studios, my dedicated home mixing space, I also conduct recording sessions at top-tier facilities like The Base Recording Studios in South Melbourne (where you see me in this photo!) or Pony Music in Hallam, as well as other professional studios across Melbourne. This hybrid approach ensures every stage of your project benefits from the optimal environment and equipment. My 30+ years of experience across song editing, song/album production, recording engineering, and mixing engineering are all channeled into one goal: to help bring your vision, your art, to life with precision, passion, and a deep respect for your creative intent.
